Families of those killed in mine collapse get Rs 0.1m each

Staff Report

ABBOTTABAD: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Higher Education Qazi Muhammad Asad distributed cheques worth Rs 100,00 to the families of the men who were killed a fortnight ago in a phosphate mine collapse in the village of Tarnawi.

Addressing a meeting held during the distribution ceremony, the minister said that no one will be made to work in any mine within the jurisdiction of KP without prior permission or an official license of the provincial government. He said that he will increase the payment ratio to each family to Rs 500,000 and added that the mine in Tarnawi was being illegally operated and was not on the provincial government's record. Earlier, Hazara Division Commissioner Muhammad Khalid Khan Umarzai said that an inquiry committee had been formed to probe the mine collapse, and that the committee will submit a comprehensive report within a fortnight.
