Russia to Develop Potential Dual-Use Laser
Moscow, Feb 13 (Prensa Latina) Russia will invest around 1.5 billion dollars to build a facility to emit the world''s most powerful laser with 2.8 mega joules, official sources said in this capital.
The Russian government made the decision to have the world's most powerful laser in the near future, because the United States also has its own, with a power of two mega joules, Ildar Ilkaev, director of the Federal Nuclear Center, pointed out.
On one hand, it is the hot plasma physics used in the development of thermonuclear weapons, and on the other hand, we value the energetic aspect, because thermonuclear synthesis with laser could be the energy of the future, the specialist said.
Russia is planning to build a facility that will be 30 meters long and will have a ten-story building, Ilkaev explained, although it is not known when and in which terms the project will be carried out.
